Halo is a hybrid fractional laser that uses two types of wavelengths at the same time:
- Ablative wavelength (2940 nm): Gently removes micro-columns of the top layer of skin to smooth texture and renew the surface.
- Non-ablative wavelength (1470 nm): Heats the deeper layers of skin to stimulate collagen, refine pores, and improve fine lines and discoloration.
This dual action creates a harmonious effect. Patients get results that are similar to more aggressive, fully ablative lasers, with less downtime and faster healing.
Halo also features dynamic thermal optimization, which measures the skin temperature in real time and automatically adjusts the laser’s scanning speed. This helps ensure consistent, even energy delivery for safer and more predictable results.

Frequently Asked Questions About Halo Laser in Tysons Corner
- How is Halo different from other laser treatments?
Halo is unique because it is a hybrid fractional laser. It uses both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths in the same treatment, which allows us to target superficial and deeper layers at the same time. This often translates to better results with less downtime than many traditional single-wavelength lasers.
- How many Halo treatments will I need?
Many patients are very pleased with their results after one to two sessions, especially for early sun damage and mild texture issues. For more advanced concerns, such as deeper lines or extensive pigment, a series of treatments may be recommended. During your consultation, we will review a treatment plan tailored to your goals.
- Does Halo laser hurt?
Most patients tolerate Halo very well. A topical numbing cream is applied ahead of time and the device has integrated cooling. You will feel warmth and a prickly sensation during the treatment, followed by a sunburn-like feeling afterward. This typically improves significantly within a few hours.
- How long does a Halo treatment take?
Plan for about 60 to 90 minutes in the office, which includes time for numbing, treatment, and immediate post-care. The actual laser portion is usually shorter and depends on the number of areas treated.
- When can I wear makeup after Halo?
Most patients can safely wear mineral or gentle makeup once the skin barrier has healed, often around day 3 or 4, as long as peeling is minimal and you have clearance from your provider. Our team will give specific guidance based on how your skin is healing.
- How long do Halo results last?
With proper skincare and diligent sun protection, results can last for years. However, skin continues to age and sun exposure can create new damage over time. Many patients choose maintenance treatments every 12 to 18 months to preserve and enhance their results.
- Is Halo safe for darker skin tones?
Halo can be used on many darker skin types, but it requires experienced providers and conservative settings. Nurse Erin will evaluate your skin, history of pigment issues, and goals and design a protocol that prioritizes safety while still delivering improvement.
