WHAT IS A MINI FACELIFT?
A traditional facelift is used to remove excess skin from the lower face and upper neck and tighten the jowls, jawline and under the chin. This involves a longer incision that is usually along the hairline and around the ear to access the needed skin and tissue. With a mini facelift, small incisions are used but the same area is addressed. The procedure lifts and tightens the lower face and upper neck to firm the jowls and jawline.
The biggest difference between a mini facelift and a traditional facelift is the amount of skin and tissue that needs to be excised and elevated. Good candidates for a mini facelift still have decent laxity in their skin but are noticing a slight drooping in the lower face. Since the incisions are smaller, the recovery time is quicker and the scar is more discreet. This procedure is often used by our patients as early as their late 30s and beyond to curb the aging process and delay the need for a traditional facelift.

CAN I COMBINE PROCEDURES WITH A MINI FACELIFT?
Combining multiple procedures allows for a more comprehensive rejuvenation of the face. Many patients will choose to combine a mini facelift with other in-office procedures such as a mini neck lift, mini brow lift, upper eyelid lift, fat grafting to the face, and a chemical peel or CO2 laser to improve skin tone and texture. This combination of procedures is referred to as Facial Rejuvenation.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A MINI FACELIFT?
A mini facelift can be done in the office, under local anesthesia and takes about 2-3 hours depending on the complexity of the case. During a mini face-lift surgery, Dr. Maia will make an incision right in front of the ear in order to address loose skin and tighten tissue located just below the skin. Patients are able to return to their home as soon as the procedure is completed. After your surgery, you’ll be sent home with dressings over your stitches which will be removed in about 7-10 days after surgery. When done correctly, mini-facelifts look like a natural aesthetic improvement rather than the overdone look that many people associate with cosmetic surgeries.
